Build the Floor Before the Roof
For the longest time, I thought I had to build the roof first.
I wanted the online business.
The freedom.
The flexibility.
The ability to work from anywhere.
But I kept forgetting one thing.
A house without a floor doesn’t matter.
Recently, I realized something that changed the way I think about my career.
I don’t need to rush toward financial freedom.
I need a sturdy floor.
My Floor
Right now, teaching is becoming that floor.
It gives me:
- Reliable income.
- A consistent routine.
- A way to pay my bills.
- The ability to pay off debt without constantly wondering where my next paycheck will come from.
Ironically, teaching opportunities have been coming to me faster than freelance clients.
For a while, I thought that meant I was moving away from my dream.
Now I see it differently.
Maybe I’m building the part that every house needs first.
The House
When I imagined my life as a house, everything started making sense.
The Foundation
Reliable income.
The thing that keeps the entire structure standing.
For me, that’s teaching.
The Floor
Financial stability.
A life where my expenses are covered, my debt is shrinking, and I can breathe again.
Not rich.
Not financially free.
Just stable.
The Walls
My business.
Instead of forcing it to pay my bills immediately, I can build it slowly and intentionally.
A better offer.
Better content.
Better systems.
A stronger business.
The Windows
Choice.
When your finances become stable, your perspective changes.
You stop saying yes because you’re desperate.
You start saying yes because it fits the life you’re building.
The Roof
Financial freedom.
Multiple income streams.
Investments.
A business that can stand on its own.
Teaching because I want to, not because I have to.
The Garden
The reason I built the house in the first place.
Morning walks.
The beach.
Time with my daughter.
Good health.
Peace.
Because what’s the point of building a beautiful house if you never enjoy living in it?
What I’m Learning
For years, I thought success meant building faster. Now I think success means building stronger. Maybe this season isn’t about chasing the roof. Maybe it’s about pouring concrete.
And honestly… A sturdy floor has never sounded so beautiful.
